Blindness is the latest dramatic thriller. Adapted from a 1995 novel by Jose Saramago. It is about a community suffering from an epidemic of blindness. The film stars Julianne Moore, the doctor’s wife and Mark Ruffalo as the doctor. It is written for the screen by Don McKellar and directed by Fernando Meirelles, director of City of God. The author of the novel originally refused to sell the rights to his work in 1997 fearing, citing that the story was fragile and sensitive and selling it to the wrong people might distort the original concept of the story. He finally approved the slae of the rights after specific conditions. Blindness eventually premiered as the opening film for the Cannes Film Festival last May14th. And is now showing in the U.S.
